For many engineers who develop switching power adapter products, sending new products to relevant departments and carrying out strict CE certification is the most critical part of the whole research and development process, and is also directly related to whether the product can meet export standards. So, what exactly is this CE certification? For switching power adapter, what are the requirements for CE certification?
In fact, the so-called CE certification is a kind of certification abbreviation for products in EU countries. If the new product of the switching power adapter wants to be exported to European countries, it must be accompanied by the "CE" mark, and the "CE" mark is also a kind of access order to enter European countries. This mark indicates that the product complies with one or more relevant European directives. This is enforced by law. In the process of certification audit, the power adapter products will be tested for production quality, product quality, unit verification, EC type test and other certification checks. After the acceptance is passed, the corresponding "CE" mark will be issued. For products that have passed the certification, the "CE" mark issued by the European Union must be printed on the nameplate and the obvious position on the packaging box, and the height is not less than 5mm, and the need to scale proportionally.
Of course, after the power adapter has obtained the CE certification, there is also a work that needs to be completed by the dealer, that is, the signature on the compliance statement. When the adapter products are exported to Europe, the manufacturer must sign a declaration of conformity indicating that its products have met the relevant requirements of the European Union. This declaration must accompany the goods to Europe, otherwise the European customs will not let the goods in. Once the product is found not to meet the conditions of CE in Europe, it will be subject to severe sanctions.
Finally, we need to remind you that the CE certification of the switching power adapter is not anything that can be done. When conducting the commissioned test, we must judge the identification qualification clearly. If it is an illegal test agency, then the consequences are very serious. Because if a product is CE marked without testing, it will be considered to be a counterfeit product, all EU countries will take appropriate measures to impose severe penalties on the counterfeit CE marked product and other products of the same manufacturer in Europe. Therefore, it will be very dangerous if the product is tested by some illegal or shabby certification bodies.
How to ensure that products comply with CE standards?
The first step is to determine which harmonized standards and EU directives (such as RED, LVD, EMC, RoHS, ErP, and so on) your product must adhere to the directives address many different topics, including consumer rights and the protection of the environment, public health, and safety.
The second step is to demonstrate that the product satisfies the fundamental standards of the applicable EU legislation, testing is required. Testing for dangerous substances, electromagnetic compatibility, safety, and other things may fall under this category.
Most importantly, full technical documentation must be established, containing information on product design, manufacturing, testing, risk assessment, and compliance declarations. The technical paper is essential for demonstrating that the product satisfies CE regulations.
Conformity assessment is a necessary process that determines the need for Notified Body participation based on product characteristics and relevant directives. Some product categories may require evaluation and testing by third parties.
Lastly, draft Declaration of Conformity and CE marking both are very significant. The manufacturer must draft and sign an EC Declaration of Conformity (DoC) certifies that the product meets all applicable CE requirements.CE marking must be clearly and permanently attached to the product or its packaging in accordance with its standard design. If the product has been certified by a notified body, the CE mark must carry the announcement number of the notified body.
The consequences of non-compliance with CE standards may include products not being able to enter the market, facing high fines, product recalls, damage to the reputation of the company, etc. Therefore, it is an important responsibility of manufacturers to ensure that their products comply with CE standards.
